STILLWATER, Okla.-- Nebraska freshman Brian Duensing pitched six-innings of three-hit ball to lead the way in the Huskers 10-3 series clinching win over Oklahoma State Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
Duensing allowed just one run with four walks and eight strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season. Nebraska won the series, 2-1, and improved to 26-14 on the season and 12-9 in Big 12 play.
The Cowboys fell to 29-11 with the loss and 8-6 in league play. OSU and NU are now tied for third in the conference standings with identical .571 winning percentages.
Nebraska scored a run in the first when rightfielder Drew Anderson was a hit by a pitch by Cowboy starter Jimmy Rhodes (2-4) with the bases loaded scoring Jed Morris from third.
The Huskers knocked Rhodes out of the game in the second, scoring three runs on three hits in the inning to take a 4-0 lead.
The Cowboys got a run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 4-1 when Jeff Salazar belted a RBI double to right-center, scoring Mitch Mitchell from first base.
Nebraska took advantage of three Cowboy errors in the sixth inning to score three more runs to take a 7-1 lead. They added a run in the seventh on a RBI single by catcher John Grose to make it 8-1.
First baseman Matt Hopper had a RBI single in the eighth and third baseman Jeff Blevins a RBI fielder's choice to push the advantage to 10-1.
The Cowboys scored two runs in their half of the eighth on a RBI groundout by rightfielder Daylon Monette and on a passed ball by catcher John Grose that scored Nebasett Brown from third.
Salazar and Brown led the Pokes at the plate with two hits on the day while shortstop Will Bolt led the Huskers with a 3-for-5 afternoon and two runs scored.
Oklahoma State will be back in action this Tuesday, April 23, against Southeast Missouri State at 3 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium.
