STILLWATER, Okla. -- Rightfielder Daylon Monette hit home runs in consecutive at-bats to lead Oklahoma State to an 18-0 win over Centenary in baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
Monette hit a solo homer in the first and a three-run job in the second, as the Cowboys scored 15 runs in the first two innings to take a 15-0 lead. He finished the day 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
The Cowboys won their 12th straight contest at home and improved to 28-9 on the year with the win, while the Gents fell to 10-34 in 2002.
OSU starter Mike Miller pitched five innings of four-hit shutout ball to pick up the victory and move to 2-1 on the year while Centenary starter Andrew Collup lasted just 1.1 innings to fall to 0-6 on the season.
Shortstop Tony Cardone led the Gents with a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
Cowboy centerfielder Jeff Salazar opened the first with a double to rightfield and then stole third, his 19th stolen base of the year. He would score on a Jose Virgil groundout to give the Pokes a 1-0 advantage. Daylon Monette hit a solo homer to left and Paul Powell followed later in the inning with a three-run blast to center, his 11th of the year, to finish up the scoring in the inning.
OSU exploded for 10 runs in the second, with Monette and Virgil both hitting three-run homers and Nebasett Brown adding a two-run single and Brian Kraft, a two-run triple in the stanza.
The Pokes made it 17-0 in the third on a RBI single by Matt Oakes and a sacrifice fly by Toby Rhodes. The Cowboys closed out the scoring with a run in the sixth when Kraft opened the inning with a double and later scored on a sacirfice fly by Cory Von Tungeln.
The Cowboys will be back in Big 12 action this weekend when 2001 College World Series participant No. 19 Nebraska (24-13) comes to town. The teams will open the series on Friday at 3 p.m. and play on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
