STILLWATER, Okla. - Sophomore righthander Scott Baker pitched a three-hit complete game shutout to lead Oklahoma State to a 6-0 win over Oral Roberts in baseball action Monday night at Reynolds Stadium.
Baker (4-0) walked two and struck out three in pitching the Cowboys first complete game shutout since Josh Merrigan did it against Texas Tech on May 13, 2000.
The Cowboys took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when designated hitter Josh Fields roped a two-run double to right-center field scoring centerfielder Jeff Salazar and second baseman Nebasett Brown.
OSU went up 3-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Jos? Virgil that plated Salazar from third. Salazar added a RBI single in the fourth to push the Oklahoma State lead to 4-0.
The Pokes scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth off of Jeff Salazar's second RBI single of the night and a RBI single by rightfielder Daylon Monette.
Freshman righthander Dennis Bigley took the loss for the Golden Eagles to drop to 3-1 on the year. He allowed four runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.
Shortstop Doug Bernier, right fielder Wilton Reynolds and first baseman Billy Joe Richardson each had a hit for Oral Roberts.
The Cowboys improved to 26-9 with the win while the Golden Eagles dropped to 23-10.
Oklahoma State will be back in action tomorrow night against Centenary College in the first game of a two game series. Tuesday's contest is set to start at 7 p.m. while Wednesday's first pitch is at 3 p.m.
The Golden Eagles will take on Arkansas tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
