Oral Roberts Defeats Oklahoma State 8-3

TULSA, Okla. -- Sophomore pitcher Rene Recio limited Oklahoma State to two hits in seven innings of work to lead Oral Roberts to an 8-3 win Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Recio allowed two unearned runs with four walks and six strikeouts to move to 6-3 on the season. The Cowboys scored a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Rob Watson and another in the fourth on a double by Paul Powell to account for the runs off of Recio.
Oral Roberts scored a run in the bottom of the second and two more off a David Castillo homer in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Designated hitter Stockton Davis added a three-run homer in the sixth and ORU scored two more runs in the seventh to close out the Golden Eagle scoring.
Paul Powell's second RBI double of the contest came in the eighth inning to round out Oklahoma State's scoring. He led the team with a 2-for-2 day and two RBIs.
Cowboy starter Jimmy Rhodes took the loss to drop to 2-3 on the year. He gave up four runs on six hits in 5.1 innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
Oral Roberts improved to 23-9 while Oklahoma State fell to 25-9.
The rubber game of the three-game series is set for Monday at 7 p.m. Sophomore right hander Scott Baker is slated to start for the Pokes tomorrow while right hander Dennis Bigley will go for the Golden Eagles.
