FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Oklahoma State's women's soccer team went 2-0 on Saturday, picking up a 4-2 win over Arkansas and a 3-1 triumph over Southwest Missouri State in Fayetteville, Ark.
"We had good offensive execution out of our new formation," assistant coach Colin Carmichael said. "We created numerous scoring chances and were able to finish several of them off."
OSU's offense exploded in game one against the Lady'Backs, getting a pair of goals from Joanne Edwards. The sophomore opened up the scoring on an assist from freshman Krista Dedmon.
Freshman Carla Dolomont followed with a tally on an assist from freshman Courtney Robb, who later added a goal of her own on an assist by Jolene Schweitzer, before Edwards closed out the team's scoring with an unassisted goal.
The Cowgirls continued their offensive onslaught against SMS. Dedmon converted an assist from Robb to open the scoring before freshman Nikki Wojtowicz buried a 30-foot shot on a pass from Dedmon to extend the lead.
Schweitzer recorded the squad's final goal, hitting from 25 yards out on an assist from sophomore Jeni Jackson.
Junior Kat Doud turned in a solid performance in goal for OSU, surrendering the team's lone goal in the game on a penalty kick.
"We played better defensively in the second game and, as we have all spring, we continued to make improvement," Carmichael said.
