TEMPE, Ariz.-- Pinch hitter Kenny Hansley's two-run double broke open a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning and propelled Oklahoma State to a 10-6 win over UNLV in baseball action Saturday afternoon at Packard Stadium.
The Cowboys won their fifth straight game and improved to 10-2 on the year while UNLV dropped to 10-10 with the loss.
OSU opened the game with four runs in the first, one coming via a RBI single by Nebasett Brown and the rest by a three-run homer by Rob Watson, his third of the year.
Catcher Jason Jaramillo added to the lead with a solo homer in the second that put Oklahoma State on top 5-0.
Cowboy starter Shane Hawk ran into trouble in the third as the Rebels pounded out six hits in the inning and scored five runs to tie the game.
Both teams remained scoreless until the seventh when OSU had runners on second and third with no outs. After leftfielder Jose Virgil and Nebasett Brown struck out, pinch hitter Kenny Hansley hit a rocket into left-center field which plated both runs, making the score 7-5. After a Rob Watson walk, rightfielder Daylon Monette struck out but advanced to first on a wild pitch that also scored a hustling Hansley from second. Third baseman Paul Powell then hit a triple to right which scored two runs to give OSU a 10-5 lead.
Reliever Daniel Rew came on in relief of Hawk in the third and picked up his first win of the year with 3.1 innings of two-hit relief. He struck out two and allowed a run and was followed by Joe Weaver who pitched the final three innings to pick up his first save of the year.
Jason Jaramillo led the Pokes with a 3-for-3 day at the plate and was a triple away from hitting for the cycle. Kenny Hansley was the only other Cowboy to have more than one hit, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
OSU will close out the Bob Schaefer Memorial Tournament against host Arizona State tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT. Scheduled to start on the mound is Scott Baker who is 1-0 on the year.
