Cowboy Wrestling Set to Compete in Big 12 Championships

Oklahoma State's wrestling team travels to Norman, Okla., on March 9 to compete at the Big 12 Championships, hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
The Cowboys (20-3, 5-0) are coming off a win over Big 12 foe Nebraska. OSU defeated the Huskers, 24-12, in Lincoln, Neb., on Feb. 22. The victory moved the Cowboys to 5-0 on the year.
OSU began conference action on Dec. 9, 2001, when Bedlam-rival OU came to Gallagher-Iba. The Cowboys recorded three upsets on the day en route to an 18-15 victory, improving the all-time series record to 108-24-9.
The Cowboys then traveled to Columbia, Mo., to take on the Missouri Tigers. OSU won eight of the 10 matches before recording the 26-7 victory, to improve to 12-3 on the year.
OSU continued its quest to remain unbeaten on Feb. 1, 2002, when they hosted the Iowa State Cyclones. Iowa State won the previous meeting earlier in the year at the National Duals, 25-20. The Cowboys were fueled by Tyrone Lewis' upset over top-ranked and undefeated Joe Heskett. OSU went on to avenge its loss by notching the 25-16 win.
The Cowboys brought tis undefeated record into Norman, Okla., on Feb. 17 for the second Bedlam dual. OSU used two upsets by Jerrod Sanders and Skyler Holman to record the 17-8 victory.
With their record standing at 4-0 in conference, the Cowboys looked to remain undefeated after a dual with Nebraska. OSU took an early 9-3 lead, but Nebraska stormed back to take a 12-9 advantage. OSU then tallied four straight victories to notch its second straight undefeated season in conference.
The Cowboys will return to action on March 21-23 when they compete at the NCAA Championships in Albany, N.Y.
