Daylon Monette, Jason Jaramillo, Jos? Virgil, Paul Powell and Jake Bollig all homered in the second as the OSU offense wrapped out 25 hits on the afternoon, while the pitching staff limited the Leathernecks to just seven.
Starting pitcher Mike Miller (1-0) pitched four shutout innings of two-hit ball to pick up his first win of the year. Justin Meccage, Jason Kramer, Joe Weaver, Aaron Whitehead and Chase McElree all saw time on the mound in relief for the Cowboys.
The Pokes scored five more runs in the third, three of them coming off a bases clearing double by Monette, who finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs on the afternoon.
OSU scored three more runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to extend the lead to 22-0 before WIU got on the board with four runs in the sixth.
The Cowboys rounded out the scoring with a six-run eighth inning and improved to 8-2 on the year. Western Illinois remains winless in 2002, dropping to 0-8.
Nebasett Brown and Jason Jaramillo led Oklahoma State at the plate with three hits each while Wyatt Stanfield, Josh Fields, Rob Watson and Mike Patitucci all had two base knocks in the winning effort.
OSU will be back in action this weekend at the Bob Schaefer Memorial Tournament, hosted by Arizona State, in Tempe, Ariz. The Pokes will open up the three-game round robin tourney against St. John's on Friday at 4 p.m. CT.
