Oklahoma State Defeats Western Illinois 10-3

Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State rallied back from a 3-0 first inning deficit to defeat Western Illinois, 10-3, Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
Cowboy starter Chris Reilly gave up a three-run homer to Leatherneck third baseman Joe Rooney in the top of the first to account for all the scoring by WIU.
Reilly settled down and held Western Illinois scoreless for the next four innings to pick up his first win at Oklahoma State. He allowed six hits while striking out nine and walking one.
OSU scored four runs in the bottom of the second to grab the lead for good. First baseman Ali Modami opened the inning with a double and was followed by catcher Matt Oakes who reached on an error. Centerfielder Jeff Salazar then plated the duo with a double to center. The Pokes took advantage of three Leatherneck errors in the inning to take the lead when Jake Bollig knocked in Jos? Virgil, who had reached on a miscue by the second baseman.
The Cowboys added to the lead in the third when rightfielder Daylon Monette scored on a single by Virgil, making the score 5-3.
OSU added another run in the fifth on another Virgil RBI single before breaking the game open with a three-run sixth. Third baseman Paul Powell led off the sixth with a solo homer to left, his second of the year, to put the Pokes up 7-3. Salazar and Virgil both had RBIs in the inning to extend the advantage to 9-3.
Oklahoma State's final run came in the eighth when Monette, who opened the inning with a triple, scored on a base hit by Kenny Hansley.
Relievers Daniel Rew and Mike Patitucci looked sharp in relief, allowing just two hits in four innings of work while striking out seven.
Jos? Virgil led the Pokes offensively with a 4-for-5 showing with three RBIs. Ali Modami added three hits while Daylon Monette chipped in with two to help lead the way.
The Cowboys improved to 7-2 on the season while the Leathernecks dropped to 0-7. The teams will close out the two-game set tomorrow at 3 p.m. Junior righthander Mike Miller is slated to start the game for Oklahoma State.
