Kansas State Defeats Oklahoma State 10-5

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Kansas State broke open a 4-4 contest with a five-run seventh inning en route to a 10-5 win over Oklahoma State in the second game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Frank Meyers Field.
The teams split the doubleheader today as the Cowboys took the first game, 10-9. With the second game victory Kansas State improves to 12-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play while Oklahoma State fell to 15-7 and 3-3 in league play.
Centerfielder Gabe Luttrell had the big hit in the seventh, a grandslam homer off of reliever Joe Weaver that gave Kansas State a 9-4 lead. Nick Sorensen added a solo homer in the eighth to round out the Wildcat scoring.
The Cowboys scored a run in the ninth of a RBI groundout by pinch hitter Mitch Mitchell to close out the contest.
Kansas State opened the scoring in the first on a RBI sacrifice fly by leftfielder Pat Maloney to take an early 1-0 lead.
OSU came back to tie the game on a RBI single by Rob Watson in the third and went ahead 2-1 in the fourth via a solo homer by leftfielder Jose Virgil. The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the inning when third baseman Ty Soto scored on a wild pitch by starter Jimmy Rhodes.
Kansas State scored two runs in the fifth on RBI singles by designated hitter Tim Doty and Ty Soto to take a 4-2 lead.
Shortstop Rob Watson hit a solo homer in the sixth to cut the advantage to 4-3. Paul Powell tied the game at 4-4 with a solo homer in the seventh, his seventh of the year.
Reliever Shane Hawk took the loss for OSU to drop to 1-3 on the season. Franco Pezely moved to 3-0 with the win for K-State.
The Cowboys will be back in action Tuesday and Wednesday against the University of Memphis at Reynolds Stadium. Gametimes for both contests is set for 3 p.m.
