Cowboys In Second After Quarterfinals; Four Advance to Semifinals

Oklahoma State pinned its way into third place after the quarterfinals of the 2002 NCAA Championships in Albany, N.Y. at the Pepsi Arena.
Sophomore Johnny Thompson and junior Shane Roller each recorded falls at 133 and 157 pounds, respectively.
Thompson hooked up the "snake" on Ohio State's Jeff Ratliff and pinned him in 2:04, while Roller used two takedowns before pinning Scott Owen of Illinois in 3:48.
Junior Skyler Holman advanced into the semifinals after a 12-9 decision over Travis Lee of Cornell. Holman recorded an early takedown to take the early lead, but Lee reversed Holman to tie the score at 2-2.
Holman then reversed Lee and picked up two nearfall points to take a 6-3 lead. Holman went on to record another takedown in the second period before fending off Lee's comeback to notch the win.
Sophomore Tyrone Lewis recorded three takedowns en route to an 8-5 decision over Doc Vecchio of Penn State.
In the consolation rounds, four-of-five Cowboys recorded victories to advance to the fourth consolation round. Jerrod Sanders used five takedowns to notch the 11-5 win over West Virginia's Billy Smith, while Wilcox pinned Brian Glynn of Illinois in 1:58 to advance to the fourth round.
Pat Popolizio edged out Illinois' Jason Potter, 4-3, and Willie Gruenwald decisioned Anthony Reynolds of Sacred Heart, 9-7.
James Huml was the only Cowboy to fall in the third round. Huml lost a 5-4 decision to Mark Knauer of Iowa State.
In the fourth-round consolation matches, Popolizio rode out Nebraska's Travis Pascoe in the tiebreaker to give him the win, and Sanders advanced to tonight's consolation rounds after defeating Karl Nadolsky, 5-2.
Tonight's semifinal rounds are slated to start at 4:30 (CST) in the Pepsi Arena.
