Cowboys advance seven into second round

Oklahoma State's fourth-ranked wrestling team advanced seven wrestlers into tonight's second round of the 2002 NCAA Championships at 6:30 p.m. in the Pepsi Arena.
The Cowboys are in sixth place with 14 points following the morning session where seven-of-nine wrestlers advanced into the second round.
Oklahoma takes a two-point lead over Minnesota with 25.5 points, while Michigan and Iowa round out the top four with 18.5 and 18 points, respectively.
Iowa State is in fifth place with 15.5 points and Ohio State chipped in 13 points as they are currently in seventh place.
OSU earned its first bonus points of the tournament when Skyler Holman used four takedowns before recording a 15-1 major decision over Matt Sanchez of Cal State Bakersfield.
Johnny Thompson extended his winning streak to 23 as he defeated Pittsburgh's Shawn Amistade 10-3, while Jerrod Sanders used two takedowns before recording the decision over Stanford's Matt Gentry, 8-1.
All-Americans Shane Roller and Tyrone Lewis each picked up bonus points for the Cowboys. Roller used five takedowns before picking a major decision over Kent State's Mike Tolar, 12-3.
Lewis used a takedown and three nearfall points before pinning James Madison's Seth Cameron in 1:26, while Ty Wilcox picked up a 4-1 decision over Ed Pawlak of Lock Haven.
The only two Cowboys to fall in the first round were Pat Popolizio and Willie Gruenwald. Popolizio fell to Lock Haven's Josh Millard, 7-5, while Gruenwald lost to Matt Greenberg of Cornell, 7-4.
