STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's soccer team has announced the signing of four players, Lauren Colwell, Cassie Lewis, Erin Corbin and Jackie Hinton, for the 2002 season.
"We wanted to add depth in the midfield, on the flank and in goal and we think we have done that. We are very excited to have these four kids and feel they will help us compete in the Big 12," assistant coach Colin Carmichael said.
Colwell, a 5-2 defender from Tulsa, Okla., has earned all-district honors while helping Jenks High School to three consecutive state championships. At the club level, she is a member of the state champion Tulsa Soccer Club.
"Lauren is one of the fastest players in the state," Carmichael said. "She is very aggressive and will be able to help us in wide areas because of her speed."
Lewis, a first-team all-district pick at Cypress Springs High School in Houston, led the Challenge Soccer Club to the 1998 Region III title. The 5-7 midfielder was a member of the 1998 Region III Olympic Development squad and attended the Adidas Elite Soccer Players Camp in 2001.
"Cassie should be a factor in the central midfield because she is big and strong," Carmichael said. "She is very good in the air and is very dangerous on set plays because of her ability in the air.
Corbin, who was both a high school and club teammate of Lewis, was a member of the Challenge's 1998 Region III championship team and has been selected twice to the Region III ODP pool. The 5-6 goalkeeper has earned all-district honors three times for Cypress Springs High School.
"Erin will definitely come in and battle for playing time in goal," Carmichael said. "She is a great shot stopper with very good reflexes."
Brandon, Fla., native Jackie Hinton rounds out the 2002 class. The 6-2 goalkeeper is a member of the Lakeland Lazers soccer club. Hinton has earned first-team all-conference honors and has been a two-time all-county selection at Durant High School. She was also an all-conference pick in volleyball and basketball.
"Jackie has very good hands and her size, strength and overall athletic ability make her an imposing figure in goal," Carmichael said.
The Cowgirls will open their spring season on Feb. 23 when they travel to Memphis, Tenn., to take on Mississippi and Auburn.
