Oklahoma State Announces 2003 Football Schedule

Stillwater, Okla. - Seven home games, and six contests against teams likely headed for bowl games this year, highlight Oklahoma State's 2003 football schedule, released Friday afternoon.
OSU's 2003 slate begins August 30 with a Big 12 Conference game against Nebraska at Lincoln. Five of the Cowboys' next seven games will be on Lewis Field, however, beginning with a September 6 date against Wyoming. Southwest Missouri State follows Wyoming to Stillwater.
OSU's initial conference home game is scheduled for October 11 against Kansas State and Texas Tech comes to Lewis Field a week later. Nationally ranked Texas comes to Lewis Field on November 8 and the final home game is set for Nov. 15 against Kansas.
Six of OSU's 12 2003 football opponents are bowl eligible this season and three of next year's opponents are currently ranked in the top 10 in both major polls.
"This is a challenging but very attractive schedule," said head coach Les Miles. "We again have the opportunity to play in front of our fans seven times, and the trip to SMU will give our Dallas area fans and alumni a chance to watch us without traveling a great distance."
OSU's lone non-conference road game of the season is a Sept. 20 trip to Dallas to face SMU. The seasons' only open date follows on Sept. 27 before the Pokes return to Lewis Field for three straight.
The only back-to-back road games of the season are on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 when the Cowboys travel to Texas A&M and to Norman for a bedlam encounter with the Sooners. Home games against Texas and Kansas and a trip to Baylor round out the regular season.
There are no first-time opponents on the 2003 schedule, although the Cowboys haven't faced Wyoming since a 1995 game at Laramie. It will be OSU's first appearance at SMU since 1950.
OSU's 2003 homecoming will be October 18 when Texas Tech visits Lewis Field. All 2003 kickoff times will be announced at a later date.
