Cowboy Golf Finishes Fifth at Match Play Championship

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team defeated Texas in a tiebreaker on Sunday morning to finish fifth at the Hooters Match Play Championship at the Barefoot Resort.
The eighth-seeded Cowboys and No. 3 seed Longhorns each won two matches and halved one contest. However, OSU, who finished the event with a 3-1 record, was declared the winner due the Cowboys' winning more holes than Texas in their five head-to-head matches.
Sophomore Alex Nor?n won four of his final six holes to defeat UT's Matthew Rosenfeld 4 and 3, while true freshman Chris Clarke picked up OSU's other victory, winning 3 and 2 over Jason Hartwick.
Texas' J.J. Wall won the 17th hole of his match against redshirt freshman Zack Robinson and held on for a 1-up win and Rusty Kennedy downed true freshman Michael Ostrich 4 and 3 for the Longhorns' other victory.
UT's Russell Surber won the 16th and 17th to take a 1-up lead into the final hole against Dayton Rose. The OSU sophomore won the hole to provide the final margin.
The Match Play Championship concluded OSU's fall season. The Cowboys will return to action on Feb. 17 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in jacksonville, Fla.
