No. 2 Cowboys Fall to Seventh-ranked Buckeyes, 19-13

Second-ranked Oklahoma State (12-2 overall) was knocked off today in the quarterfinals of the National Duals by No. 7 Ohio State, 19-13, giving the Cowboys just their second loss of the season.
Ohio State got on the board first when Jesse Long decisioned senior Matt Brown 6-5 in the 125-pound weight class. Brown was filling in for Skyler Holman who injured his knee in the first round of action.
The Cowboys answered right back with All-American Johnny Thompson controlling No. 7 Jeff Ratliff in a 12-3 major decision. That put the Pokes up 4-3, but it would be the only time they would lead the dual.
Ohio State answered Thompson's major decision with one of their own when eighth-ranked Sessley Robert defeated Ronnie Delk, 10-2.
The Buckeyes then proceeded to tally two more wins with No. 12 Keaton Anderson shutting out Jerrod Sanders, 4-0, in the 149-pound weight class and No. 13 Josh Janson upsetting fourth-ranked Shane Roller, 12-7.
The Pokes then went on a streak of their own winning the next three bouts at 165, 174 and 184.
Tyrone Lewis remains undefeated at the 165 spot, as he held off No. 11 John Clark to a 12-7 decision. With Chad Reid wrestling at 174-pounds in the earlier match, Ty Wilcox was rested and ready to go against Ohio State. Wilcox allowed only one point and defeated Ryan Hieber, 6-1.
Sixth-ranked Pat Popolizio got the Cowboys back in it with only two matches remaining. Popolizio held off No. 15 Anton Talamantes 4-0 to even the score up at 13-13.
The Cowboys had to win one of the next two matches to have any hopes of advancing to the next round, but they were unable to do so.
No. 13 Willie Gruenwald went head-to-head with fourth-ranked Nick Preston at the 197 spot, only to fall short, 7-4. That gave the Buckeyes a 16-13 lead going into the heavyweight division.
It was up to senior James Huml to pull off the upset against No. 2 Tommy Rolands. Rolands held Huml to only one point giving him a 5-1 victory, and his team a 19-13 win over the Cowboys.
The loss halted the Pokes 10-dual win streak, and is only the second time they have lost this year. The Cowboys will see Fresno State in the consolation bracket. The Pokes shutout the Bulldogs last week, 40-0.
