Cowboys Shut Out Cal Poly 48-0

Oklahoma State shut out Cal Poly this afternoon inside Gallagher-Iba Arena, where the Cowboys defeated the Mustangs, 48-0.
No. 2 Johnny Thompson, No. 7 Ty Wilcox and 10th-ranked Jerrod Sanders led the Cowboys as all three wrestlers recorded pins in their respective weight classes.
Skyler Holman and James Huml added to the point tally by snagging a tech fall and a major decision, respectively.
At 125, Holman took full control of Sophomore Justin Pichardo grabbing 13 points in the first period on his way to a 16-1 tech. fall victory.
Holman's win moved the score to 30-0 after 11th-ranked Huml took on Freshman Clint Walbeck in the heavyweight division. Huml got out to an early lead, taking Walbeck down twice in the first period. From then on it was Huml the whole way, accumulating 2:54 riding time and a 14-3 major decision,
Thompson followed Holman up tallying 10 points in the first period until he pinned Sophomore Nathaniel Ybarra at the 3:54 mark.
Ty Wilcox started the third match of the afternoon for the Cowboys at the 174 weight class. Wilcox gained the first bonus points of the match, pinning Senior Steve Strange at the 4:12 mark.
Shane Roller started the afternoon off by defeating Freshman Robb Maxwell 7-5. Roller was followed by the only undefeated Cowboy, Tyrone Lewis, who remains that way at 14-0 by holding off Sophomore Brody Barrios 12-5.
With Chuck Sandlin dropping down to 184, he created many problems for No. 5 Pat Popolizio. Neither wrestler scored until Popolizio snagged an escape point 30 seconds into the third period. Popolizio came away with a 2-0 victory, accumulating 1:30 riding time.
The Mustangs forfeited at 197 and 141, allowing the Cowboys to gain 12 easy team points in the match.
No. 10 Sanders finished off the afternoon by pinning Freshman Matt Cox with 19 seconds remaining in the match.
Sanders victory gave Oklahoma State a 48-0 victory and some momentum to take into the next match of the day in which they will be host to Fresno State at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs visited Norman earlier today where they took on the Sooners.
