Kansas Outlasts OSU Soccer 5-3

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's soccer team lost its first home game of the season on Sunday, dropping a 5-3 decision to Kansas before 787 fans at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
The Jayhawks (6-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the Big 12) got on the board quickly when Monica Brothers capitalized on a feed from Hilla Rantala at the 1:36 mark of the first half. Rantala's assist was the first of four for the senior in the game.
The Cowgirls (4-5-0 and 0-2-0) drew even in the game's 13th minute on forward Joanne Edwards' second goal of the season. The sophomore was assisted on the play by freshman Nikki Wojtowicz.
Three minutes later, Natalie Hoogveld scored courtesy of Rantala to put KU back in front 2-1.
OSU freshman Krista Dedmon knotted the score at the 19:32 mark after putting away a penalty kick, giving the Chickasha, Okla., native her third goal of the season.
Rachel Gilfillan gave the Jayhawks a 3-2 halftime lead with a tally in the game's 34th minute.
Brothers extended the lead to a pair of goals at the 58:45 mark on Rantala's third assist of the game.
Wojtowicz lofted a corner kick deep into the KU box where Cowgirl freshman Leah Carr headed it into the back of the net to cut the OSU deficit to 4-3 with 13:30 remaining in the contest.
Brothers sealed the win for the Jayhawks with three minutes to go after breaking away and converting Rantala's fourth assist of the game.
The Cowgirls will remain at home next weekend to take on Colorado on Friday at 7 p.m.
