STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's fourth-ranked men's golf team will open the 2001 fall campaign this weekend at the Ping/Golfweek Preview being held at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course.
The Cowboys will face a stiff field as 12 of the event's 15 participating teams finished in the top 15 at last year's NCAA Championships.
Senior Anders Hultman headlines the Cowboy lineup. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native enters the season ranked as the country's No. 2 player and is looking to build on a 2001 campaign that saw him win three times and earn first-team All-America honors.
Sophomore transfer Hunter Mahan, a second-team All-American last season, carries a No. 5 ranking into the season after winning twice a year ago.
Sophomores P?r Nilsson, an honorable mention All-American last season, and Matt McQuillan will be looking to build on impressive freshman campaigns that saw them combine for 12 top-20 finishes last season.
Junior J.C. DeLeon rounds out the Cowboy lineup and enters the tournament after a successful run at the Oklahoma Open last week. The Tulsa, Okla., native fired rounds of 71, 66 and 72 to finish as the tournament's low amateur.
OSU has been victorious twice before at The Preview, winning the 54-hole event in 1989 and in 1998.
The 7,236-yard Scarlet Course has been kind to the Cowboys in the past. Of OSU's nine national championships, three have come on the par-71 layout.
