Looking Ahead
Oklahoma State's women's soccer team resumes the home portion of its
schedule Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. start against Southwest Missouri State
at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. The Cowgirls (3-1-0) were to host
Northwestern State on Sept. 14th, but the match was cancelled due to last
week's tragic events on the east coast.
The Bears enter the contest with a record of 3-0-1. SMS altered its schedule last week as well, cancelling Friday's match against Baylor in Fayetteville, Ark., and rescheduling Saturday?s match with Arkansas for Oct. 24.
SMS opened the season with a 1-0 win over Tennessee-Martin before settling for a 2-2 tie with Memphis. They also own wins over Tulsa, 2-1 in double overtime, and Oral Roberts, 3-1.
The Cowgirls and Bears last met in 1999 in Springfield with the Bears prevailing by a 4-0 count. Overall, the series between the two schools is deadlocked at two wins apiece.
Week in Review
Prior to the cancellation, the Cowgirls made their first road trip of
the 2001 regular season on Sept. 7 as they traveled to Omaha, Neb. to play
in the Creighton Bluejay Classic at CU's Tranquility Park.
OSU was scheduled to take on Northern Iowa on Friday night but inclement weather forced the contest to be pushed back to Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls defeated the Panthers 3-0 with junior goalkeeper Kat Doud recording her second shutout of the young season. Sophomore Kim Graves, freshmen Jolene Schweitzer and Carla Dolomont were responsible for OSU's three tallies on the afternoon.
Graves, freshman Bonnie Thompson and sophomore Joanne Edwards each recorded their first assist of the season as well.
On Sunday, the Cowgirls were dealt their first loss of the season, suffering a 2-0 setback to Creighton. Doud recorded five saves in the game and gave up her first goal since the season opener.
OSU played the Bluejays to a scoreless standstill through the first 45 minutes but was unable to overcome a pair of second-half goals by CU's Emily Gander in the loss.
