Stillwater, Okla. - Former Oklahoma State wrestler Eric Guerrero defeated Kerry Boumans in a best-of-three series this past weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio, to earn a spot on the U.S. World Team. He and eight other wrestlers will represent the United States in the World Championships, Sept. 26-29, at Madison Square Gardens in New York City.
In a rematch of the U.S. Nationals finals earlier this year won by Guerrero, Baumans won the first match, 4-0. However, Guerrero won the next two by scores of 2-1 and 6-3 to earn the World team berth.
In other freestyle matches, former Cowboys Jamill Kelly and Daniel Cormier both finished third at their respective weight classes, earning spots to compete on the U.S. National team this fall. They will also earn a stipend while they train with the team.
