THIS WEEKEND
Oklahoma State will be participating in the NCAA Baseball
Tournament for the 32nd time this weekend as the Cowboys
make their 20th appearance in 21 years this weekend in New
Orleans, La. The Cowboys will face Mississippi in a first round
matchup beginning at 3:30 p.m. Host Tulane and fourth-seed-ed
Southern University will follow with a 7:30 p.m. tilt. The win-ners
of the first-round games will play Saturday at 3:30 p.m.,
while the losers will face off at 11:30 a.m.
Each OSU game will air on the Cowboy Baseball Radio
Network (93.7 KSPI) with Rex Holt and former Cowboy Ryan
Folmar calling the action.
THE TRADITION
Oklahoma State's baseball program is one rich in tradition.
All told, the Cowboys have made 19 appearances in the
College World Series, including a national championship run in
1959. OSU has produced 23 consecutive winning seasons, 40 All-Americans
and 13 first round draft picks. From 1981-1996, the
Pokes claimed 16 consecutive Big Eight championships and
reached the CWS seven straight seasons from 1981-1987.
OSU VERSUS MISSISSIPPI
The only meeting on the diamond between OSU and Ole
Miss came on March 7, 1993, when the two teams met at the
Louisiana Classics at Lafayette, La. The Cowboys defeated
Mississippi 4-3 in the contest.
OSU VERSUS TULANE
Oklahoma State is 1-2 all time against the Green Wave. In
their first meeting, Tulane defeated OSU 3-2 in ten innings.
The two teams met again in 1989 when the Cowboys fell to the
Green Wave by a 12-5 score at the Louisiana Challenge in
New Orleans. OSU got its first win over Tulane in 1991 with a
11-10 victory at the Louisiana Classics.
OSU VERSUS SOUTHERN
A meeting in the NCAA Regional would be the first-ever
meeting between the two schools.
