Nebraska's Komine Shuts Down Cowboys

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Nebraska starter Shane Komine struck out a record-setting 12 batters as the Huskers defeated Oklahoma State today in the second round of the Big 12 baseball tournament. Komine set a tournament record for the most strikeouts in a game.
Nebraska jumped out to an early lead as Jeff Leise led off with a double and scored on John Cole's RBI single to left field. Cole then stole second and third and scored on Dan Johnson's ground out to the first baseman.
The Cowboys answered with a run in the second inning as Zach Cates singled off starter Shane Komine and scored on Ali Modami's double to center field.
The Huskers added a third run in the third inning as Cole singled and scored on Johnson's double to center field.
Johnson's two run homer in the fifth inning, a shot to right field, put the Huskers ahead by four runs.
Nebraska also added a run in the seventh and eighth inning, bringing the final score to 7-1.
Komine picked up the win for the Huskers, pitching eight innings and striking out 12 batters on 141 pitches.
Mike Miller got the loss for the Cowboys, allowing 10 hits and six runs while striking out five Husker batters.
Ali Modami led the Cowboys offensively, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Paul Powell went 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 11 games and tying his longest streak of the year.
The Cowboys will be back in action Friday as they face Iowa State at 7 p.m. in the third round of the tournament. The winner of that game will face Nebraska Saturday at 1 p.m.
