Cowboys Sweep Sooners With 13-5 Win

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball team swept Oklahoma for the first time since the 1980 season with a win in the third game of the series today at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
With the win, Oklahoma State finishes the regular season with a 38-18 overall record and a 16-14 record in Big 12 conference play. Oklahoma falls to 23-31-1 overall and 13-16-1 in the Big 12.
Nick McCurdy picked up the win for the Cowboys, allowing only one earned run and striking out seven batters over the course of six innings.
Oklahoma State took an early lead in the first inning as Jose Virgil walked and scored on Jake Bollig's double. The Sooners tied the game in the next frame as Sergio Garcia hit a solo home run to left field.
The Cowboys then scored five runs in the second inning to take a 6-1 lead. Oklahoma put up a lone run in the fifth as John Erick Munneke singled and later scored.
Luke Scott and Rob Watson both hit home runs in the fifth inning for Oklahoma State, scoring three runs in the inning. Scott also doubled in the sixth inning and added another run for the Cowboys as he scored on a single by Matt Oakes.
The Sooners scored three runs in the seventh inning off reliever Darren Heal to bring the score to 10-5. Roy York's three run dinger to right center field scored Nebasett Brown and Virgil, and the Cowboys extended the lead to 13-5.
Ali Modami led the Cowboys offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Bollig and Watson were each 2-for-3 in the game.
Fifth-seeded Oklahoma State will play No. 4 seed Baylor in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Bricktown Ballpark.
