THIS WEEKEND
After a week off for final exams, Oklahoma State will host intrastate
rival Oklahoma in a three-game Big 12 set. The Cowboys and the Sooners will
play under the lights of Drillers Stadium on Friday in a 7 p.m. start.
Saturday's game will be a 2 p.m. tilt at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma
City, and Sunday's game is also scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
SCOUTING THE SOONERS
The Sooners bring a 23-28 overall record and a 13-13 Big 12 record into
this weekend's matchup. Oklahoma is currently on a seven-game win streak
with three wins over Centenary, a mid-week victory over Texas-Arlington, and
a sweep of Iowa State in Norman.
Greg Dobbs leads the Sooner offense with a .419 batting average, 24 doubles, and 54 RBIs. The Moreno Valley, Calif. native also leads the team with 140 total bases and a .651 slugging percentage.
Oklahoma leads the series between the two teams by a narrow 129-126 margin. Last year, Oklahoma State lost the first two games of the series, but defeated the Sooners 5-3 in the final game of the series. The Sooners also handed OSU its first loss of the Big 12 tournament last year.
PROBABLES ON THE MOUND
Oklahoma State will send southpaw Josh Merrigan to the mound for
Friday's game. Merrigan, a Vermillion, S.D. native, has a 6-4 record on the
season with a 5.06 ERA. He has struck out 72 in 78.1 innings pitched while
walking 34 batters.
Sophomore Mike Miller will get the starting nod in Saturday's game. He is 1-1 in 19 appearances and three starts this season with a 4.67 ERA and has struck out 47 in 54 innings pitched. Sunday's starter has yet to be determined.
