Cowboys Win Series With Wildcats

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball team won its Big 12 Conference series with Kansas State as the Cowboys defeated the Wildcats 4-3 in 10 innings this afternoon at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Oklahoma State (26-11, 10-8 Big 12) won the game on Jimbo McAuliff's RBI chopper to the mound in the 10th inning. Roy York led off the inning with a double and then scored the winning run for the Pokes.
Cowboy third baseman Paul Powell extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a base hit to left field in the first inning. Powell then hit his fifth home run of the season, scoring the first run of the game for OSU to tie the game 1-1.
The Cowboys added two runs in the fourth inning as Jos? Virgil led off with a single to left. York then hit a two-run home run to right to bring the score to 3-1.
Kansas State (11-20, 3-14 Big 12) put up a run in the third inning as Osmar Castillo singled to center field and scored off of Josh Cavender's single to left.
Wildcat designated hitter Ben Oleen's double scored Kasey Weishaar in the fifth inning, bringing the score to 3-2. In the seventh inning, Weishaar's single scored J.D. Loudabarger to tie the game at 3-3.
Reliever Shane Hawk picked up the win for the Cowboys, pitching the final three innings and giving up only two hits and striking out four Wildcat batters. With the win, he moves to 2-1 on the season.
Scott Tallman got the loss for Kansas State, giving up the final run and allowing four hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Offensively, the Cowboys were led by Powell and Virgil. Powell was 3-for-5 with a home run, and Virgil was 3-for-5 with a run scored.
The Cowboys will be back in action Tuesday as they host Texas-Pan American at Reynolds Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
