Cowboys Shut Down Wildcats, 11-5

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball team pounded out 15 hits and scored 11 runs en route to a Big 12 Conference victory over Kansas State tonight at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Kansas State (11-19, 3-13 Big 12) got on the board first as first baseman Mark English hit a solo home run to left field in the third inning.
Oklahoma State (25-10, 9-7 Big 12) answered with a run in the bottom of the third as Nebasett Brown's single to right field scored Matt Oakes.
The Cowboys added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Jake Bollig's fourth-inning double scored Jos? Virgil, and Bollig came home on Toby Rhodes' single.
In the fifth inning, Paul Powell's RBI double scored Brown, who had singled to center. Virgil's single to center plated Powell, bringing the score to 5-1.
Kansas State added another run in the top of the sixth inning before scoring a final three runs in the eighth.
In the eighth inning, Jimbo McAuliff singled to center reached home on Rob Watson's double down the left field line. Powell's towering shot, his third home run of the week, scored the final three runs of the game in the eighth inning.
Southpaw Josh Merrigan picked up the win for the Cowboys, striking out eight Wildcat batters in 7.2 innings and allowing only two earned runs.
The Cowboys will face the Wildcats in the second game of the three-game series tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium.
