STILLWATER, Okla - --Oklahoma State's baseball squad held Gonzaga to five hits en route to picking up its second shutout of the season, a 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night at Reynolds Stadium.
Junior Justin Meccage moved to 2-0 on the season after handcuffing the Gonzaga offense for 7.2 innings. The Billings, Montana native struck out four batters and scattered four hits before leaving the game.
Errol Simonitsch worked 4.2 innings and gave up three runs to fall to 2-2 on the season for Gonzaga (17-18).
The Cowboys (30-11) were paced offensively by first baseman Zac Cazzelle's 2-for-3 performance. The senior drove home two of OSU's three second-inning runs with a single to centerfield, scoring Jimbo McAuliff and Jake Bollig.
McAuliff plated the Pokes first run of the game in the second with a bunt single to score Jos? Virgil.
Cazzelle led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double off of the base of the centerfield wall before giving way to pinch runner Toby Rhodes, who advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Cates. Nebasett Brown roped a triple over the head of Gonzaga centerfielder Kevin Cave to bring home Rhodes with the game's final run.
The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City with a 1:50 p.m. start.
