STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball team claimed an 11-4 victory over Cleveland State on Sunday to sweep the two-game set against the Vikings at Reynolds Stadium.
The Vikings (11-19) broke out on top with three runs in the first inning off of Cowboy starter Jimmy Rhodes, touching the freshman for three hits in the inning.
The Cowboys (29-11) got on the board with two runs in the bottom half of the frame without the benefit of a hit. Nebasett Brown reached after being hit by a pitch and was followed by three consecutive walks and a Viking error to close the gap to 3-2.
OSU manufactured a run in the fourth to even the score at three apiece. Jimbo McAuliff led off with a single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Oakes. The senior stole third before coming home on an errant pick-off attempt by Viking pitcher David Boyza.
In the sixth, the Cowboys exploded for seven runs, all with two outs, upping their advantage to 10-3. In the frame, OSU scored three runs on a pair of dropped fly balls and two more runs on a double by Jake Bollig.
Mike Miller turned in his longest outing of the year, working five innings and facing 16 batters, to earn his first win of the year for the Cowboys. Southpaw David Boyza took the loss for the Vikings and fell to 2-2 on the year.
OSU will return to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when the Gonzaga Bulldogs come to Stillwater for the first of two games against the Cowboys.
