Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska's Peaches James struck out 12 Cowgirl batters, and the Huskers defeated Oklahoma State, 8-2, here Saturday afternoon in Big 12 softball action. The win improves NU's record to 36-10 overall and 8-1 in the Big 12.
Oklahoma State's only offensive highlight was Ryan Realmuto's solo home run, her fourth of the season. Jenny Kipp drove in Nicci Quiroz with a base hit for OSU's only other run. Kipp went 2-for-3 in the contest.
Nebraska struck early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first off Cowgirl starter Lauren Bay (10-8). Before Bay was pulled in the fifth inning, the league's ERA leader had given up six earned runs on eight hits, including a home run by Jamie Fuente, who went 2-for-4 in the game with three RBIs.
Oklahoma State, 20-18 overall and 4-6 in the Big 12, will play Nebraska again on Sunday at 2 p.m. before traveling to Ames, Iowa, to face the Iowa State Cyclones in a doubleheader on Monday beginning at noon.
