STILLWATER, Okla. - Behind a record-tying performance offensively, Oklahoma State's baseball team ousted Cleveland State 12-4 before 1,416 fans on Friday night at Reynolds Stadium.
The Cowboys (27-11) tallied 10 doubles in the contest to tie a school record set against UNLV on March 13, 1982.
CSU took the lead in the top of the second when Geremy Hoover came around to score on a bad-hop double off the face of OSU shortstop Brian Kraft.
The Cowboys answered in the bottom of the third inning after Nebasett Brown reached with OSU's first two bagger and came home on a RBI groundout by Paul Powell to even the score at one apiece. Luke Scott followed with a single to right field and gave the Cowboys the lead when he crossed the plate on Jake Bollig's first triple of the season.
OSU padded its lead in the fourth frame, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring six runs on five hits, four if which where doubles by Zach Cates, Jimbo McAuliff, Rob Watson and Jos? Virgil.
The Vikings (11-17) added their second run of the game in the fifth, taking advantage of a Cowboy throwing error and a RBI single by Keith Lillash to close the gap to 8-2.
The Cowboys kept the offensive momentum going in the bottom of the fifth when Ali Modami scored on Brown's second double of the game to make the score 9-2.
McAuliff got things started for OSU in the seventh doubling into the right field gap to score pinch runner Wyatt Stanfield from first base to give the Cowboys their tenth run of the game.
OSU added its final two runs of the night in the eighth on a towering home run by Bollig, his first of the season. Brad Bouris and Zac Cazzelle followed with back-to-back doubles down the left field line to push the lead to 12-2.
Cowboy starter Nick McCurdy worked six innings and scattered seven hits to pick up the win and rise to 5-3 on the year. CSU's Jerry Long picked up the loss after tossing three innings and fell to 3-5 on the year.
The two teams will play again at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Reynolds Stadium.
