STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball team scored in six-of-eight innings to defeat Texas-Pan American 18-9 on a windy Wednesday afternoon before 1,267 fans at Reynolds Stadium.
The Cowboys (27-11) scored three runs in the bottom of the first on a groundout by Zac Cazzelle followed by a two-run homer by Roy York. The home run was the first of three in the game for the Stroud, Oklahoma native, marking the second time he has accomplished the feat this season and making him the first Cowboy to reach the mark twice in a season.
However, the Broncs (5-28) came storming back with five runs off of Cowboy starter Josh Merrigan in the second to claim a two-run advantage.
OSU jumped back in front in the bottom half of the inning with another three-spot, two of which came courtesy of an error by UTPA third baseman Matt Sisk.
York struck again in the Cowboys' four-run fourth inning with a solo shot to left field. In the frame, Brian Kraft came around to score on another Bronc miscue on a sacrifice bunt by Rob Watson. Nebasett Brown followed with his fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot to right field.
UTPA inched closer with a pair runs in the top of the fifth before OSU got both runs back on a RBI base hits by Kraft and Watson to make the score 12-7.
Leading off the eighth inning, York slammed the first pitch from Scott Fowler over the right field wall for his third round tripper and finished the day 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI. Watson also got in the act, hitting a two-run homer to center field to close out the scoring.
Kris Oakes worked two innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season to move to 1-0 on the year. Frank James took the loss for for the Broncs and fell to 0-8 on the season.
The Cowboys will return to action on Friday at 6 p.m. when they host Cleveland State.
