Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's spring football scrimmage, scheduled for Saturday in Oklahoma City, has been cancelled because of the potential for rain overnight and windy conditions during the day Saturday.
"We've been told there is a good chance of rain either Friday night or Saturday morning," said Mack Butler, OSU's Director of Football Operations. "We do not want to stage a major spring scrimmage on a wet natural surface, so we will have a normal practice here today (Friday) in optimum conditions and have major scrimmages on Lewis Field the next two Saturdays."
Butler said the decision was made today to avoid making a last-minute change on Saturday. "We certainly didn't want to run the risk of having to make this decision at the last minute on Saturday when fans were either already in the stadium or on their way."
While the scrimmage has been cancelled, the clinic planned for area youngsters will go on as scheduled. The OSU coaching staff will be at Taft Stadium Saturday morning to conduct the clinic. Registration is still scheduled for 9:30 a.m. with the clinic scheduled from 10:30 to noon.
Oklahoma State's spring football workouts will continue the next two weeks. The Cowboys will stage their Orange-White Scrimmage on Saturday, April 7 and will conclude spring workouts with a scrimmage on Saturday, April 14.
All spring workouts are subject to change.
