Mack Butler Named To OSU Post

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Mack Butler, a 29-year college coaching veteran, has been named Director of Football Operations at Oklahoma State.
Butler comes to OSU from the University of Tulsa where he served for 12 years. At Tulsa, he coached defensive ends for one season, tight ends for two years and spent eight seasons coaching the defensive secondary. He just completed his first season as TU's Director of Football Operations.
Prior to arriving at Tulsa, Butler was an assistant coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, where he coached the defensive secondary and served as recruiting coordinator. Butler coached high school football in Oklahoma before entering the college ranks at NEO.
"Mack Butler is widely respected throughout Oklahoma and the region," Coach Miles said. "His knowledge of the game as well as a reputation as an outstanding recruiter and tremendous organizational skills, made him a perfect fit for this position. I'm elated he decided to join our staff."
As a coach, Butler tutored numerous players who made it into the professional ranks. At NEO, Butler coached four All-Americans including Ben Smith, a first-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1990.
At Tulsa, Butler coached Tracy Scroggins who now plays linebacker for the Detroit Lions and three Western Athletic Conference all-league selections, including Todd Franz, a fifth-round selection of the Detroit Lions in the 1999 draft.
Butler is a 1972 graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma where he earned a bachelor's degree in business education and health and physical education. He received a master's degree in administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State in 1986.
Butler and his wife, Trice, have one daughter (Ragan Nan).
