Red Raiders Blank Cowboys in Series Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma State's baseball squad was held to a season-low two hits en route to suffering a 2-0 setback to Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon before 3,311 fans at Dan Law Field.
The contest was postponed on Friday before the start of the bottom of the seventh inning due to severe weather and was completed at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The Cowboys, who fell to 21-6 overall and 6-4 in the Big 12, threatened in the top of the third inning, putting runners on first and third with nobody out. Shortstop Paul Powell led off the frame with a double down the rightfield line followed by a single by first baseman Ali Modami.
However, Tech starter Brandon Roberson settled down to retire the next three batters he faced, beginning a stretch of 15 straight Cowboys retired by the righthander. Roberson worked seven innings and struck out six to move his record to 5-3 on the season.
The Red Raiders, 20-11 and 5-5, got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning on a RBI single by Brent Fossum, who finished the game 3-for-4. The run was the only tally of the game surrendered by Cowboy starter Josh Merrigan (4-3) in six innings of work.
Tech tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth off of OSU freshman Joe Weaver to provide the game's final margin.
Due to cold weather on Saturday, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
