Cowboys Split Conference Doubleheader

LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma State's baseball team split a Big 12 Conference doubleheader today at Dan Law Field, defeating Texas Tech in the nightcap after a loss in the first game of the day.
In the series finale, Oklahoma State (22-7, 7-5 Big 12) held off a late Texas Tech rally as reliever Shane Hawk sat the Red Raiders down in order in the bottom of the ninth to win 2-1.
Brian Kraft led off the game for the Cowboys with a single and advanced on Jimbo McAuliff's sacrifice bunt. Paul Powell then doubled to left field, scoring Kraft. Jos? Virgil singled, and Powell scored the final Oklahoma State run of the game.
Texas Tech (21-12, 6-6 Big 12) put up a lone run in the fourth inning as Gera Alvarez led off with a double to left field and scored on Chad Landry's fielder's choice.
Freshman righthander Scott Baker picked up his fifth win of the season for the Cowboys, allowing only five hits through eight innings and striking out four. Hawk received his third save of the year, shutting down the Red Raiders in the final inning.
Powell led the Pokes offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Texas Tech starter Chris Phillips pitched his third-straight complete game and picked up his eighth win of the season as the Red Raiders handed OSU a 10-2 loss in the first game of the day.
Offensively, Oklahoma State was led by third baseman Zach Cates, who went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Jos? Virgil, who was 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Pokes.
The Cowboys will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Arkansas-Little Rock at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
