Cowboys Drop Marshall 11-2 to Conclude Homestand

STILLWATER, Okla - Oklahoma State's baseball team completed a two-game sweep of Marshall with an 11-2 victory on Tuesday before 1,172 fans at Reynolds Stadium. The win wrapped up an 11-game homestand for OSU, who finished the string with a 9-2 record.
The Cowboys (21-5) held the Thundering Herd (8-7) to three hits on the afternoon. Three OSU pitchers, Darren Heal, Justin Meccage and Shane Hawk held MU hitless through the contest's first six innings.
Heal worked three scoreless innings in his second career start to pick up the win and moved to 1-0 on the season.
OSU scored its 11 runs on seven hits and was the beneficiary of 10 walks by Marshall pitchers, including eight by MU starter Rick Suter. Suter worked 4.1 innings and took the loss to dip to 1-2 on the season.
The Cowboys took the lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI triple by Rob Watson. OSU extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning with three more runs, two of which came courtesy of bases-loaded walks.
OSU put the game out of reach in the following frame, putting a five-spot on the scoreboard. In the inning, two more Cowboys scored on bases-loaded walks, while Jimbo McAuliff and Brian Kraft each plated a run apiece with base hits.
In the seventh inning, Toby Rhodes singles home Roy York and later scored on a RBI double by Ali Modami to give the Cowboys their final two runs of the contest.
OSU will return to conference action on Friday at 7 p.m. when it opens a three-game series in Lubbock, Texas against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
