Cowboys Fall to Texas in Series Finale, 6-3

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball team out-hit Texas, 7-6, but failed to hold off the Longhorns in the final game of the Big 12 conference series today at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Oklahoma State fell to 19-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play. Texas moved to 16-12 on the year and 6-3 in Big 12 action.
The Cowboys took an early lead in the first inning as Jimbo McAuliff walked and advanced to second on Nebasett Brown's sacrifice bunt. McAuliff then stole third base and scored on a throwing error by Longhorn catcher Sam Anderson.
Texas answered in the second inning as Jeff Ontiveros' single scored designated hitter Ryan France.
McAuliff led off the third inning with a single to right center and scored off of Jos? Virgil's single to right field. Virgil advanced to second on the throw and scored on a throwing error by Texas third baseman Ryan Brooks, giving the Cowboys a 3-1 lead.
Texas then took the lead for good in the fifth inning, scoring five runs and running the score to 6-3.
Scott Baker was handed his first loss of the season, moving his record to 4-1 on the year. Texas pitcher Justin Simmons threw a complete game and picked up the win for the Longhorns, allowing seven hits and striking out nine.
Offensively, the Cowboys were led by McAuliff, who was 2-for-4 with two hits and scored two of Oklahoma State's runs. Zac Cazzelle was 1-for-2, and Virgil was 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. With his third-inning single, Virgil held on to a 13-game hitting streak.
The Cowboys will be back in action tomorrow against Marshall. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
