STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's soccer squad has announced the signing of five players to National Letters of Intent. Leah Carr, Krista Dedmon, Lisa Fulton, Kendra Rainbolt and Courtney Robb comprise the Cowgirls' 2001 recruiting class.
This year's group boasts a strong Oklahoma presence, as four of the signees, Carr, Dedmon, Fulton and Rainbolt, are in-state prospects.
"We were able to get four of the premier kids in the state of Oklahoma. As far as needs go, we addressed some key areas. Not only did we get good players, but we got good all-around kids," assistant coach Colin Carmichael said.
Carr, a 5-6 defender from Yukon High School, has earned all-conference, all-district and all-city honors the past three seasons. In 1999 and 2000, she served as captain of the Royals FC `82 club team, which finished as regional runners-up last season. Carr has also been a member of the Olympic Development Program state team since 1995.
"Leah is a very good athlete. She is fast, strong and is a good one-on-one defender," Carmichael noted.
The Cowgirls also secured the signature of one the most prolific goal scorers in Oklahoma high school history with the addition of Chickasha native Krista Dedmon. A 5-5 midfielder, Dedmon led CHS to a state championship in 1998 and broke the state's single-season scoring record in 1999 with 49 goals. She is also a teammate of Carr and Fulton at the club level and as a member of the ODP squad.
"Krista is one of the most gifted technical players in the state. The fact that she puts the ball in the back of the net is a big plus and will really help us next season," Carmichael added.
Lisa Fulton comes to the OSU program via Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City. The 5-7 defender was twice named the team's MVP and has earned all-city, all-conference and all-district honors three times. Fulton has been a member of the state's ODP program since 1996 and is a member of the Royals FC `82 club team.
"She is a very tenacious player. Lisa is a left-sided player, which will help fill one of our major weaknesses from a year ago," Carmichael said.
The fourth of the Cowgirls' in-state players is Tulsa native Kendra Rainbolt. The 5-6 goalkeeper is an all-district performer for the two-time defending 4A state champions, Bishop Kelley High School. At the club level, Rainbolt competes for the TSC `83 squad and has been a member of the ODP state team since 1996.
"Kendra is a player who has the ability to come in and immediately battle for the goalkeeper spot next year," Carmichael noted.
Sugar Land, Texas native Courtney Robb was Clements High's leading scorer in 1999 and was a first-team all-district selection as well. Robb, a midfielder, plays for the Challenge `82/ '83 club team that was a national finalist in 1999. She was a also a member of the ODP Region III team in 1998 and 1999, as well as a member of the ODP South Texas State Team since 1995.
"Courtney plays on one of the best youth programs in the country. She has exceptional speed and will definitely increase our team's athleticism," Carmichael said.
