HONOLULU, Hawaii - Oklahoma State's men's golf team will open the spring season on Wednesday at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Honolulu.
The 54-hole tournament will be held at the 6,916-yard, par-72 Leilehua Golf Club.
OSU has participated in the event 13 times since 1986, winning the tournament six times. Last year, the Cowboys finished in a tie for second, carding a team score of 839.
The Cowboys, who enter the 2001 campaign ranked sixth, are coming off a season in which they captured the school's ninth national championship.
This season, OSU will be led by All-American Anders Hultman. The junior from Gothenburg, Sweden already has one win under his belt this season, firing a final-round score of 63 en route to a 21-under-par performance at the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational in November.
Hultman's three-day total of 195 is believed to be the lowest 54-hole score in NCAA history.
Joining Hultman in the starting five will be a pair of familiar faces who sat out last season. Senior Peter Davidson sat out the 2000 season due to injury, while sophomore Boyd Summerhays returns to the Cowboy lineup after spending two years on a mission in Argentina.
A pair of talented newcomers, freshmen Mat McQuillan and P?r Nilsson, round out the lineup. The duo combined for a pair of top 10 finishes during the fall.
