OSU Coach Eddie Sutton
On the upcoming games
"I think we probably have a chance to be favored in most of the remaining
games except for Oklahoma. We should be a slight favorite on the road and
probably a pretty good favorite here at home. There are still a lot of games
to be played."
On Texas' rebounding
"I think Owens (Chris) is a tremendous basketball player. I really think
they (Texas) are very athletic and they are certainly capable of rebounding.
I think Thomas (James) is really an outstanding rebounder and one of the top
freshman in the league. We just didn't do a very good job of blocking off
and even on free throws, which is a cardinal sin, they got the ball back.
That's just really not forgiving as far as I'm concerned, we talk about that
all of the time."
Texas Players
Forward Chris Owens
On the physical game
"It was pretty physical, but I think we initiated the physical play. It
just stayed like that the whole game. It's fun when it's a physical game."
On defending Maurice Baker and Victor Williams
"I think our guards did an excellent job on Baker and Williams. They got
them to take tough shots, even though they made of tough shots. The defense
was good. It allowed us to really rebound."
Guard Darren Kelly
On the impact of Maurice Baker fouling out
"It seems like after he goes out, they just kind of shut down. They're
scrambling for someone to try to make a play for them. That's what it seems
like. He's a great player. A lot of their offense runs through him. When
you lose someone like that, it does hurt the team's offense. It feels like
it did take a little out of them."
On Texas' intensity
"I think we all sat down as a team and talked about what we needed to do.
And we came out with that everybody on the team needed to calm down and to
play their roles, and let's just put it together for 40 min. Tonight we
just came out and did it."
On Chris McColpin
"He gave us the feel of the game that we didn't have from our point guard
standpoint. He settled us down when we needed to get settled down. He
pushed it when he needed to push it. He just made good reads. And that's
what we needed from somebody. He gave that to us tonight. Hopefully he'll
give it to us the rest of the year. "
On Texas' depth
"We knew that we had more depth than them. Our plan was to try to foul
(Maurice) Baker out. Once we saw that he was in foul trouble early, we
tried to go at him and get him out of the game early.
Texas Coach Rick Barnes
On Maurice Baker
"If he plays like that he's first team All Big 12. He's the kind of guy
who's thinking about playing while he sleeps. When you lose a guy like
that, it'd hurt any team. I wish he would foul out in the first half."
On depth
"We play a lot of people, but depth only helps you when guys come in and do
their job. Owens was in 33 minutes. I don't like him playing that many minutes."
On defending Jonzen
"We really gave a lot of help to him. We respected him a lot coming in.
Wherever he was we just really tried to give him a lot of attention."
