Cowboy Wrestling Finishes Second in Reno

Oklahoma State's second-ranked wrestling team recorded 171 team points en route to a second-place finish at the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev. on Dec. 20.
The Cowboys were led by juniors Jerrod Sanders and Shane Roller and senior Ty Wilcox. The trio each won individual titles at 149,157, 174 pounds, respectively.
Sanders decisioned Missouri's Jeremy Spates 3-2 at 149 pounds, while Roller decisioned Kenny Burleson of Missouri 8-6 at 157 pounds. Wilcox upset Missouri's eight-ranked John Kopnisky 3-0 at 174 pounds to claim his title.
Sophomore Johnny Thompson recorded a fall and a technical fall in the second round and quarterfinals before falling to Arizona State's David Douglas 3-2 in the finals, while junior Skyler Holman fell to Ben Vombaur of Boise State 3-1 in the finals.
Senior Pat Popolizio saw his 12-match winning streak come to an end at the hands of Penn State's Mark Becks 6-3. Becks prevailed to win the 184-pound title.
The Cowboys will return to action on Jan. 5 when they compete at the Lone Star Duals. OSU will return to dual action on Jan. 11 when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to wrestle against No. 3 Iowa.
