Postgame Quotes
OSU Coach Eddie Sutton
"One thing you have to realize is that if you have Andre (Williams) and Cheyne (Gadson) out there in our rotation, we're going to be a lot different than we were. I think the biggest disappointment was our defense. I thought our defense was a lot better than that. When we started the game, we did okay. I think we got them down by about 23-12. It was close to double figures. Then the last ten minutes of the first half we were playing what I call rat ball. We were just running up and down the floor and shooting. They were shooting too, and they were shooting better than we were. At the beginning of the second half, we played good defense again. We played well there for about four or five minutes, but our defense was the biggest disappointment to me. We just gave up too many shots."
On the offense
"In our half-court offense, we showed no patience. We did a good job and got baskets in transition. I thought our running game was pretty good. It was encouraging to see Hill and McFarlin play as well as they did their first time out. They both did a good job. I thought our point guard play was horrendous. I told Maurice (Baker) and Victor (Williams) that they didn't make good decisions. They turned the ball over way too many times. We'll get back to the practice court in the morning and see if we can get these things corrected before we play Saturday night.
Athletes First Head Coach Gary Vick
On game
"I thought it was a good game. I think we helped OSU. We played hard defensively. The guys that they had that were effective. We talked about Hill,Baker and J?nz?n. Those guys will carry them. They all played hard. McFarlin will be a good player, as will Crawford and Marlow. I just thought it was a good game.
On the atmosphere
"Gallagher-Iba is electric as it always has been. The arena is even greater now. It is a great place to play. Most of the players on our team were aware of the atmosphere, but we have some guys from out of state that were awed by it. It takes awhile to adjust to it because we are used to playing in front of crowds of 500, not 5,000. I got lost in this place.
