NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's soccer team suffered its first-ever setback to Oklahoma on Friday night, losing 2-1 in overtime before 1,325 fans at the OU Soccer Complex.
The Cowgirls (7-10-1 overall and 2-7-1) got on the board four minutes into the contest when freshman defender Leah Carr headed in a corner kick by freshman Nikki Wojtowicz for her fourth goal of the year. The assist was Wojtowicz's ninth of the season, giving the midfielder sole possession of the school record for assists in a season.
Krissy Dawson equalized in the game's 25th minute for the Sooners (10-6-1 and 4-5-1) after taking a long midfield pass from Kirstin Karfonta and rocketing a shot over Cowgirl goalkeeper Kat Doud.
The game's turning point came at the 42:32 mark of the first half when Wojtowicz was ejected after receiving a red card, forcing OSU to finish the contest a player down.
OU made the most of the advantage, outshooting the Cowgirls 17-2 in the second half. However, Doud came up big in the stanza with several key saves to force the fourth overtime game between the two schools in the series' six-game history.
In the extra session, Dawson struck again just three minutes in, lofting a free kick from 30 yards out into the OSU box that found the back of the net on one bounce.
The Cowgirls will close out the season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest against Arkansas-Little Rock at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
