Oklahoma State 16, Oklahoma 13
Nov. 24, 2001 - Norman, Okla.
OKLAHOMA STATE HEAD COACH LES MILES
"This senior class decided to give us some leadership today. At the beginning of the day we were all sad that the season would be over for us, but we knew there was something out there for us. We just didn't know what it was. This senior class decided it was going to be this game."
On the win:
"I think the incentive of playing a nationally ranked team added to our preparation. There were some change-ups on defense. Ultimately, you don't win on tricks and gimmicks, you win on tackling and fundamental football."
On Oklahoma:
"We have great respect for taking the field at Memorial Stadium. We understand the history behind Sooner football. Coach Stoops and his staff have done a great job. We will root for them from this time forward. We just needed to show everyone we are a good football team."
On OSU's defense:
"There was no way that anyone could contain our defensive line today. They were dominant and you could just see as the game progressed that they (OU) were going to make mistakes."
OKLAHOMA STATE LINEBACKER DWAYNE LEVELS
On the win:
"It feels good, it feels real good. For the most part, we just played our defense. We came at them (OU) and caught them off balance. We've been in a lot of close games this year and I challenged the defense to put together a full game today."
OKLAHOMA HEAD COACH BOB STOOPS
"Give Oklahoma State credit. They made the keys plays all over the field and simply out-executed us. It was especially apparent on the last drive with their receivers making diving catches. I don't think we came into this game unprepared and looking ahead to next week (to the Big 12 Championship Game). The team was out-played and I was out-coached. That's really the only excuse I have for this loss."
On Oklahoma State freshman quarterback Josh Fields:
"He threw the ball well throughout the game and it wasn't like we were missing assignments in the secondary. He did an excellent job throwing the ball where it needed to go."
On whether there was anything OU's offense could have done better: "Was there anything we could have done better? How about everything?"
On the lack of touchdowns:
"Not making short-yard situations killed us. If you keep kicking field goals, it will eventually catch up to you."
On the state of the program:
"I feel bad for the players who made significant contributions to this program over the last three years. As for this season, one game doesn't overshadow what we've done. To be 10-2, not a lot of people can say that."
OKLAHOMA RECEIVER JOSH NORMAN
"We didn't play like we should at all. We prepared all week and we were ready. We just didn't make plays. This really hurts as a team because all of our goals just go out the window."
"This was my last game here and this kills me. We didn't lose at home in three years and now to lose this one, it's just a tough way to end the regular season."
On what's next for the team:
"We can and will react well to this. This team has a lot of integrity and character. We are going to keep working and give it our all. We can go to a bowl now and play like Oklahoma Sooners should."
OKLAHOMA DEFENSIVE END JIMMY WILKERSON
"They outplayed us in every position. We practiced well all week and we were confident coming into this game. We didn't do what we needed to do, and OSU did. It's frustrating."
"Their touchdown drive at the end was a good one. You have to give them credit. This is a tough loss, but we can learn from this and then go and play well in a bowl. The season is not over."
