Cowboy Wrestlers Place Six at Oklahoma Open

Six Cowboy wrestlers finished in the top three in their respective weight classes at the Oklahoma Open in Norman, Okla., today.
The Cowboys dominated the 174 weight class with three wrestlers finishing in the top four, led by Chad Reid's first place showing. Reid beat teammate Chris Pendelton 7-6 in the first place match. Pendelton advanced to the finals by beating teammate Tony Gansen 4-2 in the semis. Gansen rounded out the Cowboy contingent in the 174 weight class with a fourth place finish.
Rusty Blackmon got beat in the second round in the 197 pound division by Oklahoma's Josh Ferguson. Blackmon then battled his way through the loser's bracket setting up a rematch against Ferguson. Blackmon beat Ferguson 5-3 and earned a third place finish.
Like Blackmon, Derek Stevens lost his first match, but fought through the loser's bracket to capture a third place finish in the 125 weight class. Stevens defeated Central Oklahoma's Chris Saferite 3-1.
Jake Rosholt advanced into the championship match in the 184 weight class, but fell short to OU wrestler Josh Lambrecht in a tight contest that ended 13-10.
The Cowboys will be back in action at home against No. 1 ranked Minnesota, on Dec. 2, at 2 p.m.
