Nov. 21, 2001
STILLWATER, Okla. (OSU Athletics
The student-athletes signed will be eligible to play for the Cowboys during the 2002-03 season.
Head coach Tom Holliday along with assistants Robbie Wine and Josh Holliday were pleased with the recruits they were able to get during the early signing period.
"We used the early period to address our immediate concerns for next season,2 said Coach Tom Holliday. "Our 2001-02 club has 15 juniors with draft potential and add to that nine seniors, we could possibly lose 24 players from this year1s team. We went after power bats and power arms with an emphasis on velocity and homerun potential."
Four of the newcomers are from the state of Oklahoma and include right handed pitcher Dustin Bernard (Moore HS/Moore, Okla.), lefthanded hurler Adam Dye (Cowley County JC/ Broken Arrow, Okla.), outfielder/lefthanded pitcher Brett McDonald (Yukon HS/ Yukon, Okla.) and righthanded pitcher Brandon Weeden (Edmond-Santa Fe HS/ Edmond, Okla.).
"Our young prospects are ready to contribute and are good students who we can build around. This is a very deep class that spans the entire country and we were able to get some of our concern areas signed early. As always, the amateur baseball draft in June can have a definite impact on our signees and alter what we have coming in next August."
