Head Coach Les Miles
On using the bench
"We had lost four defensive backs going into the game. We focused this past
week on the people who were going to play and can play hard. We knew Darrent
Williams had a lot of talent. We expected Williams to give them problems on
the corner. We had plenty of people that we did not expect to play in that
game who came in and played extremely well."
On Darrent Williams
"He is still only a freshman. He has done an awful lot in a true freshman
year in a backup role. He has had physical ailments for much of the year,
which has slowed his progress. We are fortunate he became healthy when we
needed him most."
On the quarterback situation
"We are going to go into the week with the idea that we are going to see how
Aso Pogi's health is. Josh Fields had a very productive day and came in and
played very well for us. Both of them deserve a lot of consideration for who
will get the start. We have to go into the week a little bit before we will
know for sure."
On starting Fields at OU
"Fields has come off the bench and performed in some tough environments this
year like Texas A&M. The Oklahoma defense is the best defense that we have
seen on film. They will test anybody we stick in there at quarterback. There
are many factors that will play into deciding who will get the start."
On the bedlam game
"There is a real responsibility as a coach to make sure your players can get
to the field. You know they are going to play hard. It is a very important
game for everybody involved."
On Oklahoma's defense
"They are very mobile and aggressive. Both backers come to the line of
scrimmage, which is what you have to do. On the perimeter they have players
who can tackle wide receivers and running backs. They are very sound and
solid. They are easily the best defense that we have seen."
On Oklahoma safety Roy Williams
"He is a physical, gifted athlete. He is a sure tackler, which is what you
want."
Player Quotes
Terrence Robinson
On the feeling after the win
This feeling is a lot better than what we have been feeling in the past.
This is a feeling of happiness. We are feeling good because we got a win
this past weekend."
On the positives of the win
"This win brought us together even more. There have been a lot of people who
have wanted to hang their heads and we have had some tremendous leaders to
go to those people and tell them to keep their heads up and move forward
with things. We have all stayed together throughout this entire year and
nothing has come between us."
On Darrent Williams
"He showed us a lot of talent early on. i had a feeling that he would be
able to play right away. His speed and aggressiveness was amazing at such
an early stage in his career. The plays he made this past Saturday were
wonderful."
On Oklahoma's offense
"Oklahoma is very similar to Texas Tech offensively. They have very talented
players and we think we will be able to stop those key players."
Darrent Williams
On being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
"It is a great honor, especially since I am a freshman. This just make my
confidence go up even more."
On practice
"It get better in practice because I am always going up against our great
receivers. They are a very good group of receivers. Going up against those
guys I get better every week, because I see their moves and techniques every
week."
On getting a chance against Baylor
"Coach has been telling me ever since the Texas game that I am not a
freshman anymore. He said you need to start playing like a senior. I just
tried to step in and make some plays."
On playing Oklahoma
"I know how good they are. I have not seen much film on them, but i have
watched a couple of games on television and I watched them play last year.
They are No. 3 in the BCS so this will be our bowl game. I am getting
excited."
Jeff Machado
On the feeling after the win
"Everything felt better because we did get yelled at as much afterwards.
Anytime you do not get yelled at it is good."
On Playing Oklahoma
"There is no question that this will probably be the biggest game that we
played all season. Everybody knows how big this game is for our team and
individually. People just take things personally and I think that is why we
usually play well."
On finishing the season
"We are disappointed that we will not go to a bowl game this year, but Coach
Gundy said it perfectly by saying we have a game each week that is just as
big as a bowl. A bowl game is just one extra game where you get to go
somewhere and you get to play a good team. There is no question that we are
going to go down and play a great team and it will probably be more fun than
any bowl you could ever go to. This is our bowl game and we are going to
prepare and have some fun."
On this team
"This team sees every team they play as a big game. We just want to go out
there and win games. We have not won a lot this season. We see every game as
a winning opportunity."
