Postgame Quotes
OSU Coach Eddie Sutton
"This game was a grinder, and I've coached a lot of grinders. When defense plays as well as they did the first half it becomes pretty hard to run your offense like you would like to run it. As I told the squad, we missed some easy shots, Fred (J?nz?n) in particular, and we turned it over. Two things that we did well were that we really rebounded in that first half, and our defense was sensational. In the second half it softened up a little bit, but you have to give them (Cincinnati) a lot of credit. Logan is a terrific player. He's probably as good of a guard as we're going to see all season long. I told the team, when you're not really on top of your game your defense can keep you in the game. Football coaches taught me that a long time ago. If you look at any team sport, your defense can sometimes carry you when you're having a bad night offensively."
On Victor Williams
"I think Victor has matured tremendously. Off the floor he's become a better student. On the basketball court he's certainly displayed a lot more maturity than last year. He still doesn't use good judgment at times, but overall he's really playing good basketball. He's playing well at the defensive end, and he's probably shooting the ball as well as anybody we have on the team right now."
On how this game will compare to Big 12 play
"I think what you saw tonight was NCAA play, and you'll see that again when we get into conference play. There are so many teams in our league that emphasize defense just as much as we do. You're going to see some grinders. I've been coaching too long not to realize that it's going to happen when two teams get out there and play like these teams did tonight."
Oklahoma State Guard Cheyne Gadson
On the game
"I thought we went out there and played really aggressive at the beginning and then in the second half it was a war. Both teams were going back and forth and we couldn't hit a basket for the first eight minutes. But we settled down and started making our shots and came out with the victory."
Cincinnati Guard Steve Logan
On the game
"We need everyone to step up. Like coach (Huggins) said, we need everyone to come in day-in, day-out and work hard. Not just one player, but everyone needs to produce in certain categories."
On where to go from here
"Oklahoma State has a great team and great coaching. We came into a hostile environment, I'm not saying that's an excuse for us, but we do have a lot of young guys that still don't know what is going on. We have got to get these guys ready if we plan on being a contender."
On the atmosphere
"You got to to give it to Oklahoma State, they were loud, and made it tough for us to play. We're a big time program and we have to come into games like this and get the win, unfortunately we didn't do that tonight."
