CARBONDALE, Ill. - Oklahoma State's women's cross country team won their first district title in school history, out of 27 teams, and earned their first birth in the NCAA Championships since they were an at large team in 1998. The District V Championships were held in Carbondale, Ill. on the campus of Southern Illinois University.
Siri Alfheim won the individual title with a time of 20:31 on the 6,000 meter course. It was Alfheim's first meet title of the season and the first Cowgirl to win the Midwest Regional.
"Alfheim has really improved this season and has become a solid number one for us this year. I do not think we get this far without her," Head Coach Catrina Acosta said.
The Cowgirls had their top five finishers finish in the Top 25. After Alfheim the Cowgirls had Valentina Medina and Marie Nilsson finish ninth and 12th respectively. Paula Gowing and Alexandra Lindquist rounded out the scoring for the Cowgirls finishing 16th and 24th respectively.
Lindquist finished sixth at the Midwest Regional last year and qualified as an individual for the NCAA Championships where she finished 76th.
The Cowgirls will compete for the national championship on Nov. 19 in Greenville, S.C. on the campus of Furman University.
